I’m trying to setup an old OptiPlex GX for our daughter to tinker around with. It was running fine with Windows Vista x86 prior to this, but due to web browsers not updating because of Vista end of life her favorite website nickjr. I also did a full format of the hard drive so this would be a totally clean install. When I insert the disc and boot to the DVD drive the blue Windows logo appears and remains on the screen for about 2 minutes, I can hear the DVD spinning and its activity light is plugging away, then suddenly the computer just restarts.
If I set the boot order to DVD drive first it will do this infinitely. If I set the HDD as first in boot order after this restart it just brings up the no operating system found message.
Something is causing the install process to crash and restart. This also occurs when I use a bootable USB, nothing different. I’ve already wasted an entire day troubleshooting this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even though this processor has bit “capability” it was not able to process some Windows 10 bit instruction sets. I downloaded the bit ISO and installed without issue. Office Office Exchange Server. Not an IT pro? Resources for IT Professionals.
